How TabToSheetMusic collects, uses and protects your information when you convert tab to standard notation.

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what information TabToSheetMusic collects when you use https://tabtosheetmusic.com (the "Services"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version: converting a tab and previewing the notation happens in your browser and needs no account. We collect account and payment information only when you sign up or buy exports, and we store your tabs and scores only when you save or export them. We do not sell your information and we do not use your music to train machine learning models.

Information We Collect

Information You Give Us

  • Account information: your name and email address, and a password if you sign up with email rather than Google
  • Payment information: purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive the purchase record (what you bought, when, and the amount) but never your full card number
  • Support messages: what you write to us by email or through the contact form, including any screenshots you attach

Your Music

  • Tab text and files: the plain-text tab you paste, and the Guitar Pro or MusicXML files you import. The conversion and on-screen preview run in your browser. If you are not signed in and do not export, your tab is not saved to our servers
  • Saved scores: when you are signed in and export a song, we save the score (the notes and settings, not the exported files) in your account so you can open it again and re-export it in any format without paying again
  • Edits: changes you make to the result, such as note durations you adjust measure by measure, are saved together with the score when you save it

Usage and Device Data

  • Usage data: pages you visit, features you use (for example converting, playback or exporting), and errors that occur
  • Session recordings: our analytics tool (PostHog) may record how the page is used, such as clicks, scrolling and page changes, so we can find and fix problems. Password fields and payment forms are not recorded
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system and approximate location derived from your IP address

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide the Services: convert and display your tab, save the scores you choose to save, produce your exports, and manage your account
  • To process payments: record your purchases, apply your exports or subscription, and handle refunds
  • To improve the Services: understand which features are used, where conversions go wrong and which errors happen, so we can fix them
  • To communicate with you: answer support requests and send service messages such as purchase receipts, password resets and important changes to these policies
  • To keep the Services safe: prevent fraud, abuse of free features and unauthorized access, and enforce our Terms of Service

We do not use your tabs, scores or exports to train machine learning models, and we do not publish them. There is no public library of user files on TabToSheetMusic.

Data Retention

  • Account data: kept while your account is active. When you delete your account or ask us to, we delete it within 30 days, except where we must keep records for legal or tax reasons
  • Saved scores: kept in your account until you delete them or delete your account
  • Purchase records: kept as long as required by tax and accounting law
  • Usage data and session recordings: kept for up to 12 months

Data Security

  • Data is encrypted in transit with TLS
  • Saved files and account data are stored with access controls on infrastructure run by our providers
  • Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the Services

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Service Providers

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with providers that help us run the Services, and only as needed for that purpose:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, content delivery, file storage and email delivery
  • DigitalOcean: database hosting
  • Stripe: payment processing
  • Google: sign-in, if you choose to sign in with Google
  • PostHog: product analytics, error tracking and session recordings

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of our users, or as part of a sale or merger of the business.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct information that is inaccurate
  • Delete your account and your data
  • Export your saved scores
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

International Data Transfers

Our providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Children's Privacy

The Services are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will post the new version on this page, update the "Last updated" date below and, for significant changes, notify registered users by email.
